Buttons will remain "None" even though it's recognizing you pushing buttons, etc. If you modify HOTASMappings, then try to edit anything through the actual game menus (as you will want to in order to bind buttons and stuff), there's a chance the game will simply stop recognizing your device. Be sure the game seems to know that the stick is there BEFORE you do any work on the actual HOTASMappings file.ģ.) The next part is hit or miss. until the game responds to inputs from the stick/throttle - no matter how janky. Have your stick plugged in, and continue switching menus, loading saved games, closing and restarting the game, etc.
You'll need to ensure you have the vendor ID number for your specific device, many of which can be found here:ġ.) If you have not already done so, delete your HOTASMappings.remap file and verify / repair your game, letting the game create a brand new one.Ģ.) Load the game with that default file running. This will likely work with other types of sticks as well.
It took 4 days of fiddling this time, but I managed to get my "officially recognized" Logitech Extreme 3D Pro working with the game the way I wanted it. It's really not simulation-heavy enough to benefit much from a just feels nicer to use one.) (That being said, the game does function fairly well with M+K. I'd recommend planning on using mouse + keyboard if you just want to begin playing. So, get ready for a really janky, time-consuming experience getting even basic functionality out of any joystick with no guarantee it's going to work in the end. I think it's safe to say they're not going to address it. I would normally deduce that this is a wonky system issue, but I've now seen the exact same dysfunction on 2 very different systems, and it's been this way since the game was released on Epic. Don't need that level of precision, and I don't look forward to that nightmare of a setup for little to no gain. I also have a VKB Gladiator NXT, though it's not a stick I would use for something like this, normally.
To add icing on the cake, the 3rd party utilities create input lag, meaning any button presses that are recognized are often happening a full 0.5 seconds after I push them.
None of the buttons are natively recognized. I don't get a full range of motion on the X/Y - it only recognizes about 70% input aning I can only turn and accelerate slowly. Now, I'm using a very basic joystick that's supposed to be natively recognized by the game, and it's not only failing to recognize it, but even the 3rd-party stuff is leaving me with incomplete X/Y axis recognition. It took me several days using the vjoy method along with a secondary 3rd-party program for button mapping to get my buddy's Virpil HOTAS set up so that the game would recognize inputs. From what I've seen, you should expect massive trouble setting up pretty much any joystick.
